COLLIERS has been appointed to both the NABERS and Green Building Council of Australia’s advisory programs, helping to shape initiatives and temper the impact of the group’s own assets under management.
Colliers will provide the program with an agency perspective on the environmental initiatives, acting as the only major agency assigned to the Green Building Council (GBCA) advisory, while working with the NABERS Accelerate program.
This comes after Colliers’ recent appointed of Lisa Hinde to the new role as head of sustainability in the group’s Asia Pacific ESG Task Force.
“In line with our own commitments to track and report on our carbon emissions, these long-term engagements with NABERS and the GBCA not only benefit our own teams in guiding and preparing the direction of our local industry in Australia, but it also sends a strong signal to our clients,” said Hinde.
Collier’s alone has 11.4 million sqm of property under management, leaving the group with extensive capacity to institute significant environmental change, both through client advisory means and by integrating initiatives in this portfolio.
“The fact Colliers is contributing to the development of these new frameworks, will ensure the outcome is representative and relevant to their operations in this emerging carbon constrained economy,” added Hinde.
Both Hinde and Daniel Shafferman, national director of industrial real estate management services at Colliers will work on the NABERS Accelerate program, which is focused on speeding up a sectors adoption of its ratings, helping Colliers to outline an energy and water benchmark.
“The result of our advice will inform the first industrial ratings in Australia and not only upskill our teams to handle requests from our existing and future clients to facilitate these ratings, but also allow us to extend the opportunity to be the first rated under this new benchmark,” said Hinde.
Colliers’ clients will also receive a 20% discount from NABERS if they choose to participate in the first cohort.
While in being assigned to the GBCA’s Early Access Green Star Performance Advisory Panel, the group will help operational assets make the move to net zero.
“As the Green Star standards had not been updated since 2017, Colliers representative appointment to the GBCA Expert Advisory panel earlier this year to oversee the development of the next iteration of the framework has been pursued to keep it in line with the World Green Building Council net zero objectives for real estate,” concluded Hinde.
