THE first stage of South Australian government’s cladding audit has classified nearly 200 buildings within the Adelaide CBD as “of concern”, according to reports.
Major buildings including the new Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide Oval and the Adelaide Convention Centre are in focus, with 140 buildings having façades possibly built with ACP cladding, 45 with entry canopies and 10 buildings under construction.
The audit forwarded 77 to the Metropolitan Fire Service for further inspection. It took in a total of 4,500-plus structures including residential building more than two storeys high, hospitals, schools and aged care facilities.
The state government undertook the process following the Grenfell Tower tragedy in London that claimed around 80 lives, largely due to the highly flammable building used to construct its exterior.
It prompted the $100 million, 20-storey U City Building in the CBD to have its exterior design altered in order to be built free of the cladding.
