AFTER a drop in auction activity last week, the spring selling season is back in play with Melbourne leasing the combined capital city rebound.
According to the latest figures from Domain, nationally there were 2,074 auctions listed, up from 1,412 the week before with 1,450 auctions reported up from 1,200.
At 62.8%, the national clearance rate was up from last week’s revised 60.1%, with 910 properties selling at auction up from 721 in the week prior, with 265 properties withdrawn, up from 189.
Compared to the same week last year, the clearance rate was up from 55%, where 1,802 properties were listed, 1,602 auctions were reported and 881 were sold.
The total value sold this week was at $850.3 million, with houses bringing in an auction median of $1,210,000 and units at $790,000.
This was up from last week’s $720.1 million, with the auction median for houses at $1,300,500 and units at $975,000.
Compared to the same week last year, the total value sold was down from $1,139.9 million, with the house auction median at $1,290,750 and the unit auction median at $810,000.
According to CoreLogic’s results, the combined capital cities saw a 32.5% rebound from the 2,023 auctions scheduled for the week prior, with 2,681 homes coming under the hammer.
In Sydney the clearance rate was up from 62.8% to 64.9%, with 579 reported auctions, 149 withdrawals and 376 properties selling.
Sydney’s total value sold at auction was up to $412.1 million this week, with an auction median of $1,722,000 for houses and $1,002,000 for units.
In Melbourne the clearance rate was up from 55.6% to 62.2%, with 698 reported auctions, 83 withdrawals and 434 properties selling.
The total value sold in Melbourne was $346.7 million, or an auction median of $1,023,500 for houses and units at $650,000.
While in Adelaide, the clearance rate was at 62%, with 79 auctions reported, six withdrawn and 49 properties sold, for $40,712,000 in total sales and a median of $907,500.
In Brisbane the clearance rate came in at just 44%, with 66 auctions reported, 18 withdrawals and 29 sold, for $36,525,300 in total sales and a median of $1,228,250.
Finally, Canberra’s clearance rate was at 54%, with 65 auctions reported, nine withdrawn and 35 properties sold for a total value at $24,141,500 and a median of $950,000.
