- What next Mackenzie is looking to help local economies grow
Industry veteran Peter Mackenzie has launched his new venture, MackCo Retail Partners, a company looking to bring national retailers to Atlantic Canada, Green Street News can reveal.
The business launched on March 25 and is based in Halifax. The primary goal of MackCo is to put deals together that get stores open in growing communities.
“By connecting great brands with growing communities, we’re creating win-win opportunities that help local economies thrive and bring exciting new options to residents,” Mackenzie told Green Street News.
“My focus is on daily-needs retail, and Canada’s major retailers are in expansion mode. My role is to help them secure good locations in growing markets so that they can bring modern retail offerings to new markets.”
Mackenzie said his secondary focus is to identify established, older retail centres that require new investment and new leasing to bring them to today’s standard. This creates value for communities by having more retail options close to home, for retailers by driving sales and for investors by offering a sustainable return on their capital.
Mackenzie worked at Plaza Retail REIT for almost eight years, departing late last year as executive vice president and chief investment officer. Prior to that, Mackenzie worked at CBRE for 12 years.
