THE redevelopment of the former Carlton and United Breweries site has been given the green light, following the approval a $6 million main public park.
The main park and associated infrastructure proposal was determined by the Planning Assessment Commission because the developer Frasers Property Group had donated $25,000 to the Australian Labor Party and $10,000 to the Australian Liberal Party in the two years preceding the application.
Yesterday NSW Premier Keneally said construction of the park and related infrastructure will support 120 jobs. In total, the $1.3 billion CUB development will create 1,200 construction and 6,000 ongoing jobs.
The park will be almost 6,500 sqm in size and represents the first time the space will be open to the public in more than 150 years.
Frasers Property Australia has also been given approval to construct infrastructure in and around the park, including new roads and footpaths and new traffic signals at the corner of Abercrombie, O’Connor and Regent Streets and Kent Road.
The company can now begin construction of the main park, subject to further resolution of some park design issues with the City of Sydney council. To date, Frasers has been undertaking remediation and site preparation works at the former brewery site.
Five other applications are currently before the Department of Planning for various precincts within the site.
