FORMER Australian Property Institute president Robert Hecek will take the reins as president of World Association of Valuation Organisations (WAVO) at June’s annual general meeting in Singapore.
WAVO is an independent, not-for-profit, private sector organisation that brings together professional property valuation organisations, and others like accounting and business organisations, that represent valuers and related property consultants.
The International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC) admitted WAVO as a full member of the IVSC in February, after they signed memorandum of cooperation at the IVSC-WAVO Global Valuation Conference in Christchurch, New Zealand in June last year.
“International valuation standards are more important than ever in defining quality, consistent and transparent global approach to valuation across all asset classes,” IVSC CEO Nick Talbot said.
“Linked to this, education, professionalism and ethics are also fundamental components in helping professionals deliver quality valuations and IVSC is happy to continue to work with WAVO and its member organisations in enabling valuers to provide quality and consistency.”
API CEO Amelia Hodge congratulated Hecek on the appointment.
“This terrific news is the result of years of strategic engagement and advocacy, with many key people playing a role fostering global relationships for the benefit of the profession. The collaboration between our key stakeholders will continue to advance and evolve ethical practice, professional standards and continuing professional development. This is important to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by a global network, career and client base that becomes increasingly intertwined and accessible.
“We are looking forward to working closely with Rob in his new role on WAVO’s Global Education Portal, which will see API contribute its globally recognised professional development and education content, in this model, potentially a first for any profession,” said Hodge.
The mission and goals of WAVO are to be the global umbrella organisation for VPOs who are members of WAVO/IVSC through its global education hub. The education portal will contain education courses from around the world that will set the backdrop of governing quality control of education compliance with the international valuation standards (updated IVS 2024/2025). WAVO intends to apply IVSC standards for training valuers.
