Kindred Works is advancing plans for a purpose-built midrise rental development on the site of a historic church in Toronto’s Scarborough region.
Earlier this month, the developer filed plans to build connected six- and 12-storey buildings with 148 residential units at 2102 Lawrence Avenue East. Kindred Works received zoning approval in November for the development.
The site is occupied by the 1877-built Wexford Heights United Church, an additional postwar building and a cemetery. The church, which has a heritage designation, would be retained in full and repurposed as an amenity space for residents. The cemetery would be retained, and the accessory building would be demolished.
The proposed residential units comprise a mix of studios to three-bedroom suites, with 46 of the units designated as affordable. Amenities would include a gym, lounge space, a playground and a screening room.
The site is less than 400 m east of Warden Avenue and 3 km from the Kennedy GO station and Highway 401.
The City of Toronto will review the application for approval.
