Mattamy Homes and QuadReal Property Group released final designs for the first phase of their $6bn redevelopment of the Cloverdale Mall in Toronto.
Dubbed the Clove, phase one will comprise a 33-storey condominium and an adjoining nine-storey building, collectively containing more than 600 residential units. It will occupy a 2.3-acre site at 2 and 10 The East Mall. A sales launch is planned for this fall.
The boot-shaped tower and angular midrise were designed by Giannone Petricone Associates with the goal of creating a “signature building,” GPA founder Ralph Giannone said.

Plans also include a “resort-like” courtyard and new streets offering connections to various methods of transportation.
“This first building is the singular opportunity to get in on the ground-floor as this 32-acre master-planned community takes shape over the next decade,” Niall Haggart, president of Mattamy Homes’ GTA urban division, said.
“The team has worked hard to design a tower that will serve as a gateway to the rest of the development, while offering a striking presence on Toronto’s west-end skyline.”
Once the master plan takes shape, the 32-acre site at the intersection of Highway 427 and Dundas Street West will house more than 5,000 condominium and purpose-built rental units and two public parks.
“We’re embarking on a deliberate, multi-year process, informed by extensive consultations and community feedback, to extend the existing neighbourhood onto our site, and deliver a new kind of gentle urbanism,” QuadReal senior vice president of development Aaron Knight said in the release.
