VICTORIAN Planning Minister Justin Madden has handed back planning controls for the Kodak site in Coburg to Moreland City Council after approving the $282 million development.
Madden said the developed 20.5 hectare site would provide more than 380 new homes, a neighbourhood hub and new open spaces.
“The approval of this plan is a major step forward in the redevelopment of this landmark site. This is a rare opportunity to convert an old industrial precinct,”
Madden said approval of the master plan followed the decision last year to rezone the site and require the developer to prepare a master plan before any individual planning permits were granted or subdivision could take place.
“Now that the master plan for the whole site has been approved, the process of obtaining planning permits for each component can begin,” he said.
Madden said projects such as this were important in meeting the target of 316,000 new dwellings in established areas of Melbourne as identified in Melbourne @ 5 Million.
