AUSTRALIAN cricket legend Ricky Ponting and his wife Rianna have sold their beachside home Shandford in Melbourne’s blue ribbon Brighton for around $16 million.
Ponting, who is in England as part of Sky Sports’ coverage of The Ashes, put the 1920s property to the market in May through Forbes Global’s Mike Gibson and Andrew Smith of BuyerX with a price guide of $14.8 million to $16 million.
A local family is the buyer, paying within the expected range.
The three-level, seven-bedroom home is on a 1,900 sqm block on St Ninians Road and includes a home cinema, pool, tennis court, and private laneway access to the beach.
The Pontings previously told AFR Weekend they were leaving to be closer to their children’s Toorak schools and Saturday sport. They had been attracted to the area to be closer to friends, including late spin king Shane Warne, who was also a Brighton resident, and had moved down from Sydney’s Sutherland Shire after Ponting’s retirement from cricket in 2012.
The sale comes hot on the heels of packaging executive Adrian Field’s family home on nearby Dudley Street – also within the suburb’s “Golden Mile” – trading for $22 million, also through Gibson.
