MELBOURNE and Sydney are amongst the top five cities in the world with the most expensive car parking rates, according to Colliers International.
The Colliers International Parking Rate Survey of 156 cities found Oslo was the most expensive city to park per day at $US89.04 followed by Copenhagen at $US73.11. In third place was Melbourne on $US69.53 and at fourth place was Sydney at $US67.42 per day.
On the other side of scale, the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta had the cheapest rate at just 92 cents per day.
Colliers national director of research Nerida Conisbee attributed local council and state government levies to the high cost of car parking in the Melbourne and Sydney CBD.
Meanwhile Brisbane came in 14th place with $US41.09 per day.
Out of the major capital cities, Canberra civic had the cheapest daily parking rates at $US10.54, followed by Adelaide with $US24.44 and Perth with $US32.66.
