AUCTION activity remained relatively steady over the weekend, despite both Sydney and Melbourne facing challenging weather conditions.
According to the latest figures from Domain, nationally there were 2,260 auctions listed, up marginally from 2,236 the week before with 1,610 auctions reported down from 1,970.
At 57.8%, the national clearance rate was down from last week’s revised rate of 58%, with 931 properties selling at auction down from 1,143 in the week prior, with 360 properties withdrawn, up from 301.
Compared to the same week last year, the clearance rate was up from 55.4%, where 1,892 properties were listed, 1,799 auctions were reported and 997 were sold.
The total value sold this week was at $841.5 million, with houses bringing in an auction median of $1,220,000 and units at $835,000.
This was down from last week’s $1,015.9 million, with the auction median for houses at $1,213,000 and units at $838,000.
Compared to the same week last year, the total value sold was up from $795.8 million, with the house auction median at $1,105,000 and the unit auction median at $740,000.
In Sydney the clearance rate was down from 61.7% to 60.7%, with 562 reported auctions, 160 withdrawals and 341 properties selling.
Sydney’s total value sold at auction down to $383 million this week, with an auction median of $1,712,500 for houses and $928,500 for units.
In Melbourne the clearance rate was up from 56.7% to 57.2%, with 844 reported auctions, 162 withdrawals and 483 properties selling.

While in Adelaide, the clearance rate was at 59%, with 91 auctions reported, 11 withdrawn and 54 properties sold, for $48,156,101 in total sales and a median of $985,000.
In Brisbane the clearance rate came in at 36%, with 83 auctions reported, 17 withdrawals and 30 sold, for $26,785,000 in total sales and a median of $1,246,500.
Finally, Canberra’s clearance rate was at 59%, with 81 auctions reported, 10 withdrawn and 48 properties sold for a total value at $27,133,500 and a median of $930,000.
