THE Whitsunday Shire Council has given Aspen Living the go ahead for its $700 million Whitsunday Shores development.
Aspen Living’s chief executive Brendan Acott said the new masterplan boasts a better layout and integration between the environment, community facilities, golf course and home sites.
The approval also includes provision for a 16 hectare Eco Park with a lake, commercial precinct, retirement village, club house, unit development, motel, motor home precinct, child care centre and medical precinct within the community.
Acott said with the new masterplan approved, millions of dollars in development of community facilities is slated to commence in the second half of the year.
Work has already commenced on the Gloucester precinct, and will soon start on the golf course, Eco Park and a foreshore re-vegetation program.
“The revised masterplan ensures appropriate levels of environmental and sustainable principles will be in place as the site develops.
“The foreshore abutting stages one and five will be ecologically restored to provide a habitat for endemic plants and wildlife, and we also have a stringent control plan that ensures sediment run off and erosion are managed within the site,” he added.
Once complete, Whitsunday Shores will become one of the largest mixed-use residential developments in Bowen.
