THE NSW government is seeking community feedback on amendments for the $400 million Hills Showground development that could boost market and affordable housing supply in Sydney’s fast-growing north west.
The Hills Showground Precinct East development could see the delivery of 873 new homes, and create more than 400 construction jobs in the area. Sydney developer Deicorp was appointed by Landcom and Sydney Metro to develop the village in September.
The plans include associated basement parking, landscaping, civil and stormwater works to guarantee the new homes are supported by necessary infrastructure.
A second proposal is for modification of the Hill Showground Station Precinct Concept Development, seeking to increase building heights on three lots by one to seven metres as part of future buildings through Precinct East,
Local communities have been invited by the NSW government to share their feedback on the proposals, which will be on exhibition until Wednesday, 10th April.
The Hills Showground Station Precinct received concept approval in January of 2021 and includes three development lots that will accommodate up to 1,620 dwellings, 13,490 sqm of commercial and retail space, new public open spaces and supporting infrastructure.
The first lot already under construction by Deicorp, Hills Showground Village, will include a three-level 10,935 sqm retail podium with a supermarket, speciality shops and commercial areas that will sit beneath four 20-level residential towers, and a public plaza linking the Metro Station with the rest of the precinct.
The NSW government announced late last year that it would overrule local Council controls in areas around transport hubs in a bid to fast-track delivery of up to 112,000 homes across a greater diversity of forms.
