THE Property Industry Foundation (PIF) has had another successful year, raising over $1.5 million to support young people at risk.
PIF’s latest three initiatives, the National Hard Hat Campaign, Tour de PIF and the PropertyBlitz StreetSLEEP raised over $500,000 net.
“We are delighted with the results that PIF has achieved this year and are very grateful for all of the support that we have had. Our successes wouldn’t have been possible without the property industry’s generosity and willingness to help. Through donations and funds raised this year we have been able to provide education, rehabilitation, support and homes to youth in need,” PIF national CEO Rosemary Smithson said.
PIF’s annual National Hard Hat Campaign raised a total of $270,000. The campaign encourages employers and employees to create their own initiatives and activities to help raise funds or alternatively donate an hour of pay.
Funds from NSW will go towards a second PIF House and Victorian funds will support the Lighthouse Foundation, specifically the project “Healing and Empowering Teenage Mothers” and the Lighthouse Mothers and Babies Home.
The 2013 Tour de PIF campaign raised over $200,000 net towards the Foundation’s charity building project which will provide accommodation for young people ready to re-enter the workforce. Over 250 cyclists participated in the event that was sponsored by GPT Group with further key sponsors including Holding Redlich, KPMG, Taylor Group and Walker Corporation.
The inaugural PropertyBlitz StreetSLEEP took place in October providing a unique opportunity for young industry leaders to understand how it feels to sleep rough on the streets. Sponsored by Lend Lease the sleep took place at Sydney Showground and has raised over $95,000 net to date with more donations expected. 130 young leaders from the property and construction industry took part to raise funds for Parramatta Mission, Salvation Army Youthlink and Open Family with other worthy charities also to benefit from this fundraiser.
Building on this year’s results PIF has a variety of events and initiatives planned for 2014.
“We’re looking forward to accomplishing even more over the next year. We are already planning the 2014 Charity Regatta to be held in March where and are hoping to raise over $400,000 for the Foundation,” Smithson said.
PIF has branches in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland and continues to work throughout Australia helping over 44,000 young homeless people living on the streets looking for food, clothing and shelter. Since its formation in Sydney in 1996 PIF has grown to become the property and construction industry’s charity of choice and has gifted over $20 million cash to children’s charities.
