MELBOURNE's Hotel Windsor is now fully owned by the Halim Group, an Indonesian based property development and investment company.
The Halim Group has acquired the remaining interests in the Hotel Windsor previously held by Adam Garrisson’s Oriental Pacific Group for an undisclosed sum.
Garrison and the Halim Group jointly bought the property in November 2005 for $38 million.
The Halim Group said it is looking forward to focusing on a forthcoming refurbishment that will see the Hotel Windsor fully reclaim its status as Australia’s only true independent grand hotel.
A multi-million dollar refurbishment programme is expected to begin by mid-2009.
The 180-room Hotel Windsor is currently celebrating its 125th anniversary. It was built in 1883 and pre-dates some of the world’s leading grand hotels including the Savoy in London, which was built in 1889, the Waldorf Astoria in New York which dates back to 1893, and the Ritz Paris which opened in 1898.
The Halim Group also owns a number of properties including an office building at 425 Collins Street in Melbourne’s CBD; Site One at Melbourne’s Docklands; and 606 St Kilda Road.
