MULTIPLEX has completed its two-year development and refurbishment project at 161 Sussex St, home of the Hyatt Regency Sydney.
The project was undertaken on behalf of M&L Hospitality and included refurbishment of the hotel, and construction of a new 3,667sqm convention centre and a 25-level tower including 13 new hotel levels and 10 levels of office space.
The new tower includes 222 guest rooms, bringing the total number of rooms to Australia’s largest hotel to 892.
The hotel was recently rebranded after operating as a Four Points by Sheraton Sydney.
Construction began in December 2014 and took place as the up to 700 guests per night continued to use the existing hotel rooms and premises.
It included the pouring of around 11,500 cubic metres of concrete and installation of 635 tonnes of steel, with 1,388 glass panels used for the hotel’s façade.
