BEULAH has sold out 95% of its carbon neutral residential development, The Wilds, in Melbourne’s inner north over the span of a month.
The Wilds, located on Cunningham Street in the Westgarth precinct of Northcote, sits on the banks of Merri Creek and comprises 15 carbon neutral detached houses that were marketed to buyers looking to gain the benefits of a tree-change without leaving the city.
“Homeowners will be immersed in a tranquil oasis with direct frontage to Merri creek, while still maintaining easy access to the CBD. This, coupled with the project’s innovative carbon-neutrality made it a highly appealing opportunity,” said Adelene Teh, executive director at Beulah.
The Wilds will become inner Melbourne’ first ever carbon neutral detached housing development, with each house featuring solar panels and running on 100% electricity.
The Edition Office designed project has been a hit amongst locals to the area, with most hailing from Fitzroy, Carlton North and Northcote. Buyers have also been a mix of young professionals, downsizers and young families.
“The Wilds offers a very rare opportunity and we were excited to present it to the market. While we knew these homes wouldn’t last long, we didn’t expect such a strong off-market uptake, particularly during lockdown,” added Teh.
The homes are designed to achieve their carbon neutrality through passive solar design with enclosed first door terraces, northern window shading and external blinds to the west and south-west. Additionally, electric car charges will be offered to residents, with bike racks to be available in common areas.
The 5.5 Star NABERS Base Building Energy rated development will also include additional slab insulation, cross ventilation, double glazed windows and doors and a 5,000L rainwater tank.
Most recently, the developer acquired a site in Melbourne’s inner south for $11.4 million with plans for a mixed-use project opposite Prahran Market.
