THE circa-1860 Daylesford mansion Mount Stuart House has been acquired by an investor for $2 million.
The 1,507sqm site is within the central Victorian spa town’s church precinct. Originally built a grand family mansion, it was later used as a hospital for repatriated soldiers, a bed-and-breakfast business and most recently as a family residence.
Colliers International’s Kim McQueen negotiated the deal, following the agency’s sales of Italian Hill, Boat Shed Villas on Lake Daylesford and Luana at 7 Duke Street, bringing the total of Daylesford properties sold in recent months by Colliers to more than $6.5 million.
“The buyers, who wish to remain anonymous, have great plans to return Mount Stuart House to its former glory,” McQueen said. “This property represented a unique opportunity for them to own a truly iconic property in the heart of Daylesford, only a stroll from all the wonderful attractions, restaurants and galleries in this world-famous spa towns.”
She said the record prices achieved for Mount Stuart House and Italian Hill indicate the current heightened interest in Victoria’s spa country as a genuine lifestyle location.
