JUST OVER a dozen property companies survived yesterday's market bloodbath.
Following the US Congress’ decision to reject the $US700 billion ($A860 billion) bailout for Wall Street, the local share market, S&P/ASX200 index, fell 4.3% or 206.9 points to close at 4600.5 points – its lowest level in nearly three years – wiping $42 billion off the value.
In Wall Street, $US1.2 trillion was wiped off the share market.
No sector was spared in yesterday’s bloodbath, including the S&P/ASX200 A-REIT sector.
The property trusts sector opened at 1430.5 points and fell to as low as 1359.1 points before recovering.
The index closed 61.3 points or 4.27% lower to 1369.2 points yesterday.
As at September 30, the market cap of the S&P/ASX200 A-REIT index was $69.34 billion – compared to $85.52 billion as at August 30.
The market leader, Westfield which represents over 40% of the index, fell 3.82% or 66 cents to close at $16.64.
Amongst the other top six property groups, Stockland declined 3.57% or 20 cents to close at $5.40 and thirdly, GPT fell 4.89% or 9 cents to close at $1.75.

Meanwhile, over 60 property companies were in the red.
And the gains that Centro and its flagship fund Centro Retail Trust made a day earlier were lost yesterday. Earlier this week, Centro and CER gained an extension of their debt facility which lifted their share prices.
Yesterday, CER shares slipped 20.69% or 3 cents to close at 11.5 cents whilst Centro traded 16.19% or 1.7 cents lower to close at 8.8 cents.
