CBRE Australia and New Zealand president and CEO Tom Southern has pledged to work as a receptionist at the firm's Sydney office for a morning, if the agency's 500 staff participate in Earth Hour at home.
The pledge is part of the ‘I Will If You Will’ challenge launched as part of Earth Hour 2012 and also aligns with CBRE’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.
Globally, the Earth Hour initiative will be encouraged throughout CBRE-managed buildings and offices in North America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. CBRE is aiming to go above and beyond its 2011 record of over 38.46 million sqm (414 million sq ft) of managed property.
If more than 46.5 million sqm (500 million sq ft) of CBRE managed space participates in Earth Hour, CBRE’s Global Director of Sustainability, Dave Pogue will install solar panels on his house.
Earth Hour will take place on Saturday March 31 between 8.30pm and 9.30pm. The event began in 2007 as a single-city initiative in Sydney, Australia and has grown Earth Hour into the world’s largest public environmental action.
