ASIA Pacific and Japan hyperscale data centre specialist, AirTrunk, has appointed former Reserve Bank board member and current Fortescue Metals Group director Mark Barnaba as independent chair.
Barnaba has international experience as an entrepreneur, corporate advisor and independent director for organisations across the finance, technology, infrastructure, natural resources, sports administration and education sectors.
He is the former member of the board and chairman of the audit committee of the RBA and is currently deputy chairman and lead independent director at ASX-listed giant Fortescue Metals Group and chairman of London Stock Exchange-listed Greatland Gold Plc. He co-founded and was chairman of Azure Capital, and is a former chairman of Alinta Infrastructure Holdings and AFL club the West Coast Eagles.
In 2015, Barnaba was named a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to the investment banking and financial sector, to business education and to sporting and cultural organisations.
“Mark joins the AirTrunk Board at an exciting time as we embark on the next phase of hypergrowth, continuing the expansion of our leading data centre platform throughout the APJ region,” said Robin Khuda, founder and CEO of AirTrunk said.
“Mark’s extensive background in corporate governance and scaling fast-growing businesses, coupled with his entrepreneurial acumen and deep understanding of capital markets, renders Mark an invaluable asset to AirTrunk as we enable APJ’s digital future that is being accelerated by cloud computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning.”
Barnaba said, “I am thrilled to be joining the AirTrunk Board and playing a pivotal role for the largest and most successful hyperscale data centre provider in the region.
“I look forward to working with Robin, the board and the senior leadership team to ensure AirTrunk continues to innovate and scale as it builds the critical digital infrastructure for some of the world’s largest technology companies.”
Barnaba will replace current chair Ani Satchcroft, Macquarie Asset Management’s head of infrastructure for ANZ, who will remain on the board.
