THE first weekend of summer saw an uptick in auction activity across Australia’s capital cities, in the second busiest week of the year by some metrics.
According to the latest figures from Domain, nationally there were 2,234 auctions listed, up marginally from 2,218 the week before with 1,578 auctions reported down from 1,929.
At 60.5%, the national clearance rate was up from last week’s revised rate of 54.8%, with 955 properties selling at auction down from 1,057 in the week prior, with 307 properties withdrawn, up from 303.
Compared to the same week last year, the clearance rate was up from 56.6%, where 1,830 properties were listed, 1,725 auctions were reported and 976 were sold.
The total value sold this week was at $824.96 million, with houses bringing in an auction median of $1,218,000 and units at $851,500.
This was down from last week’s $1,039.4 million, with the auction median for houses at $1,265,000 and units at $825,000.
Compared to the same week last year, the total value sold was down from $865.5 million, with the house auction median at $1,200,000 and the unit auction median at $770,000.
According to CoreLogic’s results, the weekend saw 2,999 auctions last week, up 1.7% from the week prior and coming in as the second-busiest auction week of the year so far.
In Sydney the clearance rate was up from 59.2% to 64.5%, with 558 reported auctions, 152 withdrawals and 360 properties selling.
Sydney’s total value sold at auction down to $358.2 million this week, with an auction median of $1,800,000 for houses and $930,000 for units.
In Melbourne the clearance rate was up from 52.1% to 59.1%, with 822 reported auctions, 120 withdrawals and 486 properties selling.
The total value sold in Melbourne was $383 million, or an auction median of $1,155,000 for houses and units at $741,750.
While in Adelaide, the clearance rate was at 58%, with 96 auctions reported, 14 withdrawn and 56 properties sold, for $48,739,888 in total sales and a median of $848,250.
In Brisbane the clearance rate came in at 44%, with 71 auctions reported, 10 withdrawals and 31 sold, for $20,886,000 in total sales and a median of $950,000.
Finally, Canberra’s clearance rate was at 49%, with 72 auctions reported, 11 withdrawn and 35 properties sold for a total value at $23,177,000 and a median of $970,000.
