THE Ku-ring-gai Council has given the green light to plans for residential apartments at the Seventh-day Adventist Church site, Wahroonga Estate.
Following extensive planning, community engagement and modification, the project is now set to be delivered by Capital Corporation on behalf of the Adventist Church.
The project will comprise 177 apartments across four low-rise buildings as part of the regeneration of the 64.2ha site on Sydney’s North Shore, which is divided into five neighbourhoods and includes 31.4 hectares of environmental conservation lands.
“The project has been years in the making. We carefully considered feedback from the community and made many amendments in response,” said Jim Hunter, director of Capital Corporation.
DA approval from the council comes 12 years after the NSW state government approved a Part 3A concept plan for the site which included the expansion of the Sydney Adventist Hospital, as well as other residential, commercial, and higher education developments.
“The collaborative approach we took with Council and the community ensured we are delivering a plan that meets the needs of the local community and this was evident in the amount of feedback received,” added Hunter.
The apartments will be delivered in two stages of 143 and 34 apartments with architecture by Group GSA and interiors by Coco Republic, with a of one-, two- and three-bedroom configurations including outdoor living.
Currently the development site is being utilised as a temporary carpark and is also occupied by two older style residences which are scheduled to be demolished.
The new buildings will range from four to six levels, include a two lane access road to access a shared basement, which will provide parking for 322 vehicles, 15 motorbikes and 56 bicycles plus associated facilities and storage.
“This is a considerable milestone for the Church as the proceeds from the development will unlock funding for reinvestment into facilities, new educational facilities, and other community assets within the Wahroonga Estate precinct,” concluded Hunter.
The project is expected to hit the market in early 2023.
