AN INDUSTRY ranking system has revealed Australia's top 100 residential real estate agents, and the top agent negotiated $261 million in home sales.
Sterling Publishing’s Real Estate Business report found the top 100 agents across Australia negotiated over $9 billion in real estate sales in 2013 – which up by $3.6 billion from 2012.
Not surprisingly, the booming residential property market in New South Wales meant the state had the lion share with 62 agents in the top 100, followed by Victoria with 22 and nine Western Australia.
There were six from Queensland and one from South Australia, with no agents in the top 100 from Tasmania, the Northern Territory or the Australian Capital Territory.
Sterling Publishing director Phillip Tarrant said the ranking highlights the calibre of an agent’s sales skills and gives clout to an agent’s proposition when winning more listings and selling more property.
“It also offers bragging rights for agents in what is a very competitive industry,” he added.
At the same time, Tarrant said the $3.6 billion increase in total sales reflects the demand in the market.
“Real estate’s running hot right now, and the top agents are certainly capitalising on the market. However, we’ve had a lot of new entrants to the ranking this year from diverse locations, showing that agents are growing their businesses across Australia,” he continued.
The ranking was conducted by research analyst Dr Florence Lau.
She said a range of information was captured, including sales volumes, the number of sales, years in the industry, listing numbers, support staff, days on market plus other performance-related information.
According to the ranking, Melbourne agent James Tostevin of Marshall White Boroondara, was the top agent, selling 193 properties, with a total sales volume of $261,426,888 – and an average sale price of $1,354,543.
“This was an impressive increase from his 2012 calendar year performance – up by over $58 million,” Tarrant said.
The top 10 also included Alexander Phillips of Phillips Pantzer Donnelley, Woollahra NSW who ranked second with a total sales volume also topping $200 million and an average sale price of an astonishing $1,856,096.
Other top performers included Marcus Chiminello of Marshall White Toorak VIC; Peter Chauncy of McGrath Crows Nest NSW; Michael Clarke of Clarke & Humel Property, Manly NSW; and Vivien Yap of ACTON Dalkeith, who was the highest ranked Western Australian agent.
