CONSTRUCTION is under way on the $25 million retail hub at Bokarina Beach on the Sunshine Coast, as developer Simon Harvey’s Beaugroup also progresses plans for the $70 million first stage of Gateway Marina in Bundaberg.
Beaugroup has held the BokBeach site for the past 15 years. The development will deliver a 3,000 sqm retail and lifestyle centre over three stages.
He said Beaugroup progressed to construction of the project following a surge in demand for residential and retail services since the opening of the nearby $1.8 billion Sunshine Coast University Hospital two years ago.
“We’ve owned the site for more than a decade and since then we’ve seen significant infrastructure spending from both the private and public sector.”
With dual street access from Nicklin Way and Meridian St, BokBeach will include a delicatessen and food market as the central focus, with other lifestyle tenancies and essential services, with 74 basement car parks and 56 car parks at street level.
The first two stages include a convenience centre to be anchored by a Shell service station and a drive-through bakery café. Both stages are expected to be open early in the new year.
The final stage will include the deli and food market, and a dining precinct on the ground floor, and the upper levels will include a 1,000 sqm gym and other commercial areas.
Earlier this year, Harvey lodged a development application for the $70 million first stage of Gateway Marina, which will transform the Burnett River into a major marina facility to service the southern Great Barrier Reef. Bundaberg already receives the largest number of custom clearances of leisure craft from international destinations to the east coast of Australia.
Approval for 273 marina berths has already been granted and works are underway to deliver the first 58 berths by the end of this year. with leasing for the first tranche of marina berths having started.
Gateway Marina have a marine village and resort complex with a resort hotel featuring a lagoon pool, a conference centre, boutique waterfront apartments, 16 lakeside eco-villas, a yacht club, office space, and a retail and dining precinct.
Development approval for the project is expected early next year.
Harvey has also developed the $50 million Capri on Via Roma retail centre on the Gold Coast, and among Beaugroup’s current projects is the $500 million expansion of the Porter Heights ski resort in New Zealand.
