- What next The firm is expanding in Western Canada
Fresh off a new fundraise, Cameron Stephens Mortgage Capital has promoted one lender and hired a National Bank of Canada pro to bolster its push into Western Canada, Green Street News can reveal.
The firm added to its Vancouver presence with the appointment of Gabe Chung as vice president of origination for Western Canada. He’ll write commercial real estate loans across property types, as well as help strengthen client relationships in the region.
Cameron Stephens also promoted Riccky Dasgupta to senior vice president and managing director, based in its Toronto headquarters. Previously he was VP and head of mortgage origination. Chung reports to Dasgupta, who in turn works under Steve Cameron, president and chief operating officer.
Both moves were effective June 2. A formal announcement on Chung’s hire is expected later today.
He joined Cameron Stephens with more than 20 years of experience in commercial real estate lending, including 12 years at RBC. He spent the last nearly nine years at National Bank of Canada, where he left as a managing director. In his time there, he led the launch of the bank’s real estate centre in Vancouver and originated several billion dollars in debt lending.
Cameron Stephens’ move to grow its team in Western Canada comes days after Green Street News revealed the firm’s launch of its Western Canada High Yield Mortgage Fund, which is focused on committing capital to high-quality commercial mortgage opportunities across Alberta and British Columbia. The fund has an investment capacity of $70m.
“At Cameron Stephens, we’re building a team of the best and brightest — individuals who not only bring deep experience, but also the professionalism, integrity, and relationships that define trusted leadership in our industry,” Dasgupta said in a statement.
“Gabe is widely respected in the Western Canada market. He understands our business, knows what clients need, and embodies our culture of disciplined growth and professional excellence.”
