THE Commonwealth Department of Defence has signed a long term lease renewal at 661 Bourke Street owned by the Brookfield Prime Property Fund.
The Department of Defence has signed a 10 year lease at Defence Plaza covering 100% of the building, commencing in June 2011.
The rent was not disclosed.
The DoD has been at the same location for over a decade, when it was owned by Swelbet Pty Ltd which sold it to Ronin Property Group for $65 million. Ronin merged with Multiplex, which was later acquired by Brookfield Asset Management, the current owner of the property.
Built in the 1990s, the A-grade property comprises 10 levels including ground floor retail and nine upper levels of office accommodation, totalling 19,027 sqm of space and 64 car parking spaces.
The property is situated in the western fringe of the Melbourne CBD within 100 metres of Southern Cross Railway Station. Also located nearby are the Docklands and Etihad Stadium.
