THE national clearance rate remained strong for the third consecutive week, while auction activity took a stumble after promising results the week prior.
According to the latest figures from Domain, nationally there were 1,682 auctions listed, down from 1,951 the week before, with 1,171 auctions reported down from 1,171.
At 68.0%, the national clearance rate was up from last week’s revised 65.1%, with 796 properties selling at auction down from 1,28 in the week prior, with 162 properties withdrawn, down from 168.
Compared to the same week last year, the clearance rate was up marginally from 67.4%, where 2,340 properties were listed, 2,185 auctions reported and 1,472 sold.
The total value sold this week was $690.8 million, with houses bringing in an auction median of $1,200,000 and units at $7400,000.
This was down significantly from last week’s $1014.1 million, with the auction median for houses down from $1,203,000 and units down from $814,000.
Compared to the same week last year, the total value sold was down from $2203.9 million, with the house auction median at $1,390,000 and the unit auction median at $825,000.
In Sydney the clearance rate was up from 67.6% to 69.6%, with 411 reported auctions, 86 withdrawals and 286 properties selling.

Sydney’s total value sold at auction was down to $306.8 million this week, with a diminished auction median of $1,718,880 for houses and $951,000 for units.
This was again well down from the same week last year, where 741 auctions were reported, with 500 properties selling for a total value of $999.2 million.
In Melbourne the clearance rate was also up from 64.9% to 68.1%, with 630 reported auctions, 65 withdrawals and 429 properties selling.
Melbourne’s biggest auction result this week was the $7,300,000 price achieved for a five-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 26 Bay Street in Brighton.
Sitting on a 1,311sqm lot, with an established garden and large pool, the property sits within the tightly held Golden Mile of Brighton.
The total value sold in Melbourne was $325.2 million, or an auction median of $1,090,500 for houses and units at $635,000.
By comparison, the same week last year in Melbourne saw 1,137 auctions reported, with 761 sold for a total value of $985.4 million.
While in Adelaide, the clearance rate was at 67%, with 48 auctions reported, four withdrawn and 32 properties sold, for $24,094,500 in total sales and a median of $687,500.
In Brisbane the clearance rate was improved at 70%, with 37 auctions reported, three withdrawals and 26 sold, for $17,456,200 in total sales and a median of $1,075,000.
Finally, Canberra’s clearance rate was at 51%, with 45 auctions reported, four withdrawn and 23 properties sold for a total value at $17,297,500 and a median of $950,000.
