The Claremont Town Council has approved a $340 million redevelopment of the Claremont Arcade Shopping Centre in Western Australia.
The approved development, a joint venture between Hawaiian and Multiplex Group, will see the construction of a 30,000 sqm shopping centre, along with 1,500 car spaces and 100 residential apartments in two, seven storey buildings.
Multiplex Developments’ director Cameron Laird said the retail component would consist of an expanded retail centre built over two levels, housing a Coles supermarket, a department store plus several mini majors and some 140 specialty retail stores, providing a complete range of goods and services with a focus on quality fashion and food tenants.
“This is a great step forward for the joint venture partners and we look forward to progressing this development with Hawaiian,” Laird said.
Joint venture partner Hawaiian’s general manager of property development Stuart Duplock said the development planning has been nearly 10 years in the making.
“We are particularly thrilled to have a viable project to proceed with. Thanks must go to the local community who has rallied behind this plan,” he added.
The first stage of the development will commence in late 2006 being completed in 2008.
As the project is to be built in two stages, the construction of the first stage will not affect the existing shopping centre allowing it to trade as usual.
The second and final stage is anticipated to commence directly after the first stage and be fully completed in 2010.
