JLL has signed a landmark deal with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to manage DFAT’s global property portfolio.
The portfolio covers a network of 95 missions, including embassies and high commissions in 80 countries and encompasses more than 1,000 properties (both owned and leased).
The Australian portfolio of 19 properties includes the RG Casey Building, DFAT’s headquarters in Canberra.
Globally facilities include chanceries, iconic assets such as Australia House in London, head of mission/post residences and staff residences, in addition to other support facilities.
JLL has been appointed for a term of five years with transition to start in January 2016 and a full service take over delivery from 1 July 2016.
JLL’s Australasian head of integrated facilities management Chris Hunt said this latest appointment meant the combined Australian Government portfolio under JLL’s management is now 2.4 million sqm.
“JLL is honoured to have been selected as the property provider for such a highly strategic and visible portfolio that is the public face representing Australia. We worked tirelessly with our global colleagues in the 80 countries where JLL has offices to formulate a service delivery model focused on risk minimisation that could deliver property excellence to DFAT in a consistent manner, right across their large geographic portfolio worldwide.
“JLL has been providing property services to Australian Federal Government Departments since 1996 and our proven track record, integrated management information systems, and a truly global service delivery model are all key reasons why we were appointed by DFAT,” Hunt said.
JLL’s head of Australasian government business Steve Mackintosh said the corporate solutions teams have a strong history of implementing positive changes to federal government departments in the management of their facilities.
“These include implementation of strategic systems for property management, cost savings through centralised portfolio management, improved management of data using JLL developed technology and systems and enhanced procurement capability and refined maintenance processes.
“This appointment by DFAT will showcase the specialised skills of JLL in managing diplomatic office space and the associated requirements this involves in the context of national security,” Mackintosh said.
JLL also manages the property portfolios for Qantas and Telstra.
