MELBOURNE residential property auction clearance rates surpassed the 52-week high last Saturday, according to the Australian Property Monitors' Home Price Guide.
After two weeks of level activity, Melbourne picked up slightly last Saturday with 642 properties auctioned and 430 sales. The clearance rate top 83.2%, which exceeded the 52-week figure of 83%.
The total value of properties sold was $206.4 million.
When compared to the same time 12 months ago, Melbourne had 563 listings and 203 sales totalling $87.6 million.
Meanwhile in Sydney, this is the third week activity has eased. It might be an indication of a shortage of properties in the city, with 288 properties auctioned. Twelve months ago, 295 properties went under the hammer.
Last Saturday, there were 170 sales, resulting in a clearance rate of 61.8%. The total value of properties sold was $144.3 million.
In Adelaide, there were 37 auctions and 22 sales totalling $7.2 million and in Brisbane, there were 26 auctions and 11 sales totalling $7.9 million.
