THE Star Entertainment Group has gained approval for a new 200-metre hotel and apartment tower at Jupiters Gold Coast.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said The Star Entertainment Group’s commitment to a new tower, and its current transformation projects including a new six-star 17-storey hotel, was a combined investment of up to $850 million that would increase accommodation to almost 1400 rooms.
“This is another vote of confidence in Queensland and the Gold Coast as a must-visit tourism destination. Total visitors to the Gold Coast increased by 12% to 4.7 million last financial year with an estimated combined expenditure of $4.18 billion.
“China is the largest source of international visitors to the Gold Coast with the number of visitors increasing by 33% to 267,000 last financial year. Overall visitor stays increased by 52% with the average length of stays increasing from 4.8 nights to 5.5,” she added.
The premier said the government is also working The Star on its master plan, which could see the construction of a further four towers.
