AS AUSTRALIAN Property Journal turns 20 next year, I am thrilled to announce that APJ has reached a commercial agreement with Google, thanks to the backing of Dr Andrew “Twiggy” and Nicola Forrest and Minderoo.
As joint chair of the Public Interest Publishers Association (PIPA), the inaugural online member of the Australian Press Council, and recognised public interest news publisher by the Australian Communications and Media Authority, APJ is the leading and trusted independent online property newspaper in Australia.
APJ is part of 24 PIPA publishers that will receive funding from Google.
The Google agreement reaffirms the importance of independent media, and the role that APJ plays in Australia.
Frontier Technology Senior Policy Adviser Emma McDonald said the commercial agreement would protect local journalism and give the independent publishers the opportunity to flourish.
“We are delighted Google recognises the value these publishers deliver to their communities. This deal has been negotiated in good faith over the past six months, culminating in a landmark agreement for independent journalism,” McDonald said.
“We are pleased to have worked with the Minderoo foundation to identify a broad set of solutions for a diverse group of publishers, and I’d like to thank Emma and The Minderoo Foundation for their collaboration,” said Shilpa Jhunjhunwala, Google’s Head of ANZ News Partnerships.
APJ’s readers will be the big winners.
This landmark agreement allows APJ to invest further in journalism and enhance our core news.
It will also allow APJ to expand and introduce new initiatives, starting with a new stories platform with Google, we also plan to launch a real estate careers website, real estate listings portal, property data and analytics collaborations.
And it will pave the way for APJ to expand into Asia, with Asia Property Journal.
This agreement was possible thanks to the incredible support from Dr Andrew and Nicola Forrest and the Minderoo Foundation, and Frontier Technology’s Emma McDonald.
As a result of the commercial agreement, APJ is exploring new partnership initiatives, please reach out to our Head of Corporate Development Amy Guy at amy.guy@australianpropertyjournal.com.au or editor@australianpropertyjournal.com.au to discuss.
As APJ turns 20 years old in 2023, we will have exciting new products and services to unveil, watch this space!
Thank you for being a loyal reader.
