A 1920s Toorak mansion has claimed the mantle of Melbourne’s most expensive home, changing hands for more than $40 million.
The off-market deal for the two-storey, five-bedroom “Mowbray” home on a 5,000sqm site at 18 St Georges Road was negotiated by Oliver Booth of RT Edgar.
It is next door to the site of the 1913 mansion that was acquired for $18.5 million in 2013 and then demolished.
The previous price record was set last year with the $26.25 million sale of 9 Towers Road.
