THE Western Australian government has released drafts plans to deliver 20,000 new homes at Bunbury in one of the most significant urban development project for the state.
Planning Minister Donna Faragher said the draft Wanju District Structure Plan would pave the way for Bunbury, WA’s third largest city, to accommodate 50,000 people in high-density residential urban centre.
Wanju is located in the Shire of Dardanup, 12km from the Bunbury CBD, east of Eaton.
Development of the 1,245ha site was identified as a priority in the Western Australian Planning Commission’s South West Regional Planning and Infrastructure Framework (2015), and the Greater Bunbury Strategy (2013).
“Wanju will provide an innovative change for Greater Bunbury through a sustainable mixed-use, high-density urban centre with a strong sense of place.
“As a major centre, Wanju will support diverse economic and lifestyle options for the South-West’s growing population. It will be home to 50,000 people in 20,000 residences,” she added.
“The draft plan is an important stage in the planning process and I encourage everyone to have a say on the future of this key regional urban centre.” Faragher said.
