THE Victorian state government has released new plans to guide the development of Wonthaggi North East, making way for new homes, jobs and services on the Bass Coast.
The Wonthaggi North East Precinct Structure Plan was developed in consultation with Bass Coast Shire and outlines how Wonthaggi North East will become a new community extending from the existing Wonthaggi township.
“While we get on with delivering thousands of homes in established suburbs in cities over the next decade, we’re also supporting growth areas like Wonthaggi North East with more homes, jobs and community infrastructure,” said Melissa Horne, minister for planning.
Spanning 633-hectares, the precinct will accommodate 5,000 new homes and 1,600 new jobs across the industrial and commercial land along the Bass Highway, including a new government primary school and a new sports reserve.
The plans include nature reserves, protected views, and an expansive waterway and wetland system, ensuring the protection of the natural environment.
“Wonthaggi is growing, and these new plans will provide much needed new homes as well as a new primary school, sporting facilities, a commercial area and green spaces to maximise livability and connectivity,” said Jordan Crugnale, member for Bass.
Wonthaggi North East is one of 21 priority projects identified to deliver more than 60,000 homes and 60,000 jobs across Victoria as part of Labor Government’s landmark Housing Statement.
