AUSTRALIA is in Canadian giant Brookfield’s sights after it raised $US9 billion for its Strategic Real Estate Partners Fund II, well above the $US7 billion target.
The group says it will use the fund to “opportunistically” invest in a diversified portfolio of real estate assets in Australia, North America, Europe, Brazil, and other markets.
The Fund has already put aside more than $US4 billion for investments in the US, Europe and Brazil, and the firm said it is around 45% deployed.
Brookfield, which has more than $225 billion of assets under management, has committed $US2.3 billion to the fund.
“Investors in the Fund are a diverse group of more than 100 institutional investors, including sovereign wealth funds, financial institutions and public and private pension plans,” Brookfield said.
