Altree Developments has its sights set on building 43 storeys on a north Etobicoke property, nearly doubling the height previously approved for the Toronto site.
New development plans filed with the city call for a 549-unit residential tower at 1705 Weston Road, more than twice the previously planned 242 units.
Altree acquired the site in August 2023 for $11.75m from Old Stonehenge Development Corp., which received approval in 2021 for a 24-storey condominium project there. Altree has not yet decided whether its proposed building will be condominium or rental. Fifteen of the units, however, will be rental replacement units and six will be affordable rental units.

A higher density on this site responds to the emphasis the province and city have placed on creating more housing, particularly near transit, Altree said in planning documents. The property is less than 80 m south of the Weston GO/Union Pearson Express station.
The rectangular tower would include a six-storey podium, the ground floor of which would house 300 sq m of retail and commercial space along Weston Road. An additional retail unit of 191 sq m is proposed along the north side of the building.
Residences would comprise 71 studios, 289 one-bedroom units, 128 two-bedroom units and 61 three-bedroom units.
Nearly 3,000 sq m of indoor and outdoor amenity space is planned, including a half basketball court, an outdoor play area and a barbecue area.
The application will now circulate through City Council to obtain approval.
