US behemoth Amazon has reportedly acquired a 2.11 site in outer Sydney’s Smeaton Grange for $7 million, next to the Goodman Group’s Ironbark Industrial Estate where it has rented a warehouse for almost three years.
The retail behemoth has leased a 24,000 sqm warehouse at Pellicano’s M2 business park south-east Melbourne suburb of Dandenong South, which will be its first fulfilment centre.
Amazon appeared set to begin full operations last Friday following a note to sellers earlier in the week, but the wait continues.
The Smeaton Grange site – located a Lot 4331, 42A Bluett Drive – could be used as the fulfilment centre for the country’s most populous capital.
Fairfax Media has also reported Amazon has signed a 10-year lease over a warehouse at Goodman Group’s Bungarribee Industrial Estate in Eastern Creek, while the Ironbark property is used for Amazon Web Services.
It is also in discussions with Goodman to lease a larger warehouse in the suburb, at the Oakdale South industrial estate.
