THE New South Wales government has formally accepted Brookfield Property Partners’ proposal for the $1 billion Wynyard Place development.
Premier Mike Baird said the government accepted Brookfield’s proposal as part of the unsolicited proposals process, which is designed to encourage the industry to approach government with ideas and proposals.
Brookfield’s unsolicited proposal for Wynyard Place recommended a consolidation of four existing buildings to deliver a four-level public concourse, a new transit hall and entrance to Wynyard Station, and a new commercial office tower.
The station’s surrounds will also be revitalised, including a refurbishment of the historic Shell House on Carrington Street, Margaret Street and Wynyard Lane.
“This $1 billion project is set to become a new jewel of Sydney’s CBD.
“For too long, Wynyard Station has languished without the infrastructure that such a pivotal transit hub demands,” Baird said.
The centrepiece of the redevelopment of Wynyard Station will be a new commercial and retail precinct featuring a 27-level office tower.
The Wynyard Place project, formerly known as One Carrington, is an integrated 74,000 sqm commercial and retail development spanning George St through to Carrington St opposite Wynyard Park.
The project incorporates 301 George St, Menzies Hotel, refurbishment of the heritage-listed properties at 285 George St and Shell House.
The new 27-level office tower with a total net office area of 59,000 sqm and four levels of retail space of 7,000 sqm. Furthermore, Shell House and 285 George will deliver 9,400 sqm of boutique office space.
Wynyard Place is due for completion from 2020 onwards.
