THE value of building work completed increased by 5.7% in the June quarter to $21.57 billion, following a rise of 7.3% in the March quarter, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
The sector was bolstered by new residential building work which jumped 9.4% to $10.181 billion. Work done on new houses increased 7.7% to $6.89 billion, whilst new other residential building rose 13.1% to $3.283 billion. Alterations and additions rose 1.8% to $1.66 billion.
The non residential sector also posted growth was it was more subdued. The value of non-residential building work done in the quarter rose 2.8%, following a 11.7% rise in the March quarter.
