The City of Hamilton has purchased 12.8 acres of land in Flamborough for $21.7m, Green Street News can reveal.
The seller was Roman Catholic Episcopal Corp. and the transaction closed Sept. 3. The price works out to $1.7m/acre.
The land, at 20 Parkside Drive, will be the site of a combined Hamilton Fire Department and Hamilton Police Service Station.
Flamborough is a former municipality that joined the City of Hamilton in 2001.
In January, the city unveiled plans for the new 26,000 sq ft police and fire station. At the time, the city said it had earmarked roughly $28m for the project – about $9m for the land and $18.7m for construction.
In an email to Green Street News, the city of Hamilton said the cost estimates it disclosed earlier this year were based on the amount of land required only for the site for the fire and police station.
“There is the potential for surplus city-owned property beyond the property required for the station. This is still being assessed and considered,” a spokesperson said, adding that the process will be led by the city’s corporate real estate office and will include city council review.
The city recently took bids for a builder for the facility.
