Sydney’s corporate executive will the hit the road on the Tour de Kids for Starlight Foundation, where they will swap their business suits for Lycra to ride the 1000 kilometre journey from Brisbane to Sydney.
On Sunday April 2, 33 corporate high flyers will hit the road in Brisbane in the annual fundraising activity.
This will be the sixth year Tour de Kids cyclists have hit the road to raise valuable funds for the Starlight Children’s Foundation and other children’s charities.
What started as a group of businessmen with a passion for cycling has turned into an amazing fundraiser, with more than $1.2 million being raised over the past four years.
Each Tour de Kids cyclist must raise a minimum of $5,000 to enter the ride with funds raised donated to Starlight to help them deliver their innovative “distractive therapy” programs, designed to be an integral part of the total health care of seriously ill and hospitalised children.
Tour de Kids will grant the wishes of many children in addition to supporting Starlight’s full range of distractive therapy programs. Additional funds will also be raised thanks to the Tours many sponsors including Allco, Colonial First State, Hewlett Packard, UBS and Virgin Group.
The 2006 ‘Tour de Kids’ team aims to raise in excess of $500,000. This vital support will help Starlight continue its important work around Australia.
Each year there are over 600,000 child admissions to hospitals across Australia with an increasing number of children spending extended periods in the home following hospital treatment.
Currently only one out of three of these children are able to benefit from Starlight’s programs.
Tour de Kids will provide much needed funds for Starlight, helping to reach more sick children across Australia with the ultimate aim of reaching ‘three out of three’.
To launch the event, the riders and sponsors will host a Cocktail Function on Thursday March 30, in Sydney to raise awareness and additional funds for the charity.
The event will take place in the Lend Lease headquarters at The Bond, 30 Hickson Road, Sydney.
Guest speaker will be Starlight Foundation board member, Kieren Perkins and there will be a host of other activities including a charity auction.
