A $140 mixed use development is in the works in Ferny Grove by Queensland developer, Honeycombes Property Group.
After receiving approval from the Brisbane City Council and Sara, the transit oriented development is set to commence construction in the first quarter of 2021.
“The community feedback received was an important part of our ongoing refinement of the approved development form, with our aim to reflect the needs expressed by the numerous interested residences in and around the area,” said Peter Honeycombe, managing director of Honeycombes.
The development will connect to Ferny Grove station and will offer a range of residential, retail and entertainment amenities upon completion, including Ferny Grove Central, a 12,000sqm retail centre, The Fernery featuring 82 luxury apartments, as well as parking and improved pedestrian and cyclist access.
More than 5,000 passengers per day move through the adjoining ‘end of the line’ train station.
“We have held more than a dozen different public forums, door knocked hundreds of residences neighbouring the project, and letter box dropped thousands of information fliers to keep the local community in the loop. This level of communication will continue during construction to ensure that the community remains aware of the progress on site,” said Honeycombe.
Honeycombes was granted tender status in 2017, with MaxCap being appointed as its joint venture partner, with the two partners in the process of assigning a head contractor for the project.
“The development will breathe new life into the suburb, creating a neighbourhood village atmosphere. We have already received a high amount of unprecedented interest from the local market, highlighting the level of demand for both residential apartments and retail opportunities,” he said.
The state government contributed $9 million to the project, with an additional $11 million in funding coming from the federal government, for additional park ‘n’ ride spaces.
“We have built a very strong relationship with the Queensland State Government during the formation of the development and will continue to be committed to the delivery of the TOD for the residence of Ferny Grove and the wider community.
According to Honeycombe, “the project could not have been achieved” without this government assistance.
This will be the most recent development added to Honeycombes $2 billion portfolio over 25 years.
