The Whitsunday Shire Council has approved a conference centre at the $70 million Peppers Coral Coast in Airlie Beach.
Latitude Development Group decided to include the conference facilities, which will feature the first state-of-the-art Broadband internet facilities of any conference centre in Airlie Beach, has been hailed by Whitsunday Shire Mayor Mario Demartini.
“The decision by Latitude Development Group to incorporate a conference centre into the resort is yet another feather in the cap of the region,” Demartini said.
“We look forward to the delivery of the conference centre in a project that will undoubtedly be a standout for the Whitsundays region for many years to come,” he added.
Tourism Whitsundays chief executive Matthew Williams said a top-line conference centre is critical to the continued growth of the region’s tourism infrastructure.
“The conference centre is a critical component in the continuing evolution of the Whitsundays, and in particular Airlie Beach, as a world class tourism destination,” he said.
The Whitsundays is one of Australia’s most desirable locations for international delegates attending Australia-based conventions.
Boasting stunning ocean views, the conference centre will cater for up to 100 people and offer catered packages for corporate events – ideal for training courses, meetings, or incentive and executive retreats.
Figures released by Tourism Whitsundays show that in the three months between October and December 2005, a total of 3412 people enquired about conference facilities, which converted to 6226 potential room nights in the region.
