A CONTROVERSIAL Eltham development site with a permit for 100 apartments across two buildings has hit the market.
The 5,051 sqm triple-fronted property at 26-30 Pryor Street and 27-29 Arthur Street was the subject of a VCAT hearing earlier this year after Nillumbik Shire sought to block Eltham Outlook Pty Ltd’s reported plans for a development of three buildings of between three and four storeys.
However, CBRE’s Scott Orchard, Chao Zhang and Leon Ma are marketing the site with a permit for “two freestanding, boutique apartment buildings” of 55 and 45 apartments respectively, that can be staged or developed together.
Councillors had unanimously voted down Eltham Outlook’s initial proposal for 105 apartments across three buildings in September last year, after receiving 176 written objections. Council officers tabled 30 recommendations as part of their suggestion the permit be approved, including a reduction of five apartments.
Following VCAT’s decision, Nillumbik Mayor Peter Clarke was reported as saying that the planning blueprint that allowed the VCAT ruling would be reviewed.
The property is located within the Eltham Activity Centre, encouraging higher density residential development.
“Recent development and popularity of the area is positioning the suburb as an attractive destination, with a large volume of traffic servicing the retail and dining amenity,” Orchard said.
It is being offered via expressions of interest closing September 15th.
