SINGAPOREAN developer Frasers Property Australia has started construction of its $115 million Burwood Brickworks shopping centre in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, which it says is the most sustainable in the world.
The property is the first centre recognised by the Seattle-based International Living Future Institute’s The Living Building Challenge.
Having just been approved by Whitehorse City Council, the centre will have a 2,000 sqm rooftop farm it intends to be part of a paddock-to-plate model that will include an adjacent restaurant.
The 12,700 sqm shopping centre will be anchored by a Woolworths and proposed Dan Murphy’s, and forms part of the Burwood Brickworks masterplan, which will include 700 new homes and 2.5 hectares of open space and parklands, and community facilities including spaces connected to an urban plaza.
Melbourne-based Hacer Group has been appointed to build the shopping centre.
