DEPARTMENT store Harris Scarfe will open up in the north-western Victorian town of Mildura after agreeing to a seven-year lease at the Mildura Homemaker Centre.
Its signature for the 1,500 sqm space within the Centre follows that of the Salvation Army, Carpet Court, Pets Domain and Super Retail Group’s Amart Sports, which will be rebranded as Rebel Sport in the coming months.
CBRE’s Chris Parry and Tom Perkins negotiated the Harris Scarfe deal on behalf of Melbourne-based large format retail landlord MPG Funds Management.
Parry said the deal highlighted growing demand from retailers to secure market shares in populous regional locations across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
“These markets often represent opportunities for lower rent and marketing costs, ample staffing solutions and healthier margins due to reduced competition than other larger metropolitan markets,” he said.
MPG Funds Management managing director Brett Gorman commented said national brands are attracted to the Mildura Homemaker Centre due to its extensive frontage to Fifteenth Street and its strategic corner position opposite Bunnings Warehouse.
