SYDNEY based HBO+EMTB has won the job to master plan and design India's largest biotech park.
The 280ha project is located approximately 500kms north of Mumbai on the outskirts of Vadodara, one of the principal cities of the Gujarat State.
A private/public consortium, lead by Akruti City Limited, with the specialised involvement of TCG Urban Infrastructure Holdings Limited as well as the ongoing involvement of the Government of Gujarat, through the nodal agency of Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission (GSBTM), selected HBO+EMTB from an extensive field of international design firms.
The biotech park is being planned in three phases spread over more than 280ha of industrial land near the township of Savli. HBO+EMTB will also provide the master planning and design expertise for approximately 40 hectares of non-biotech uses including commercial, residential and educational support facilities, culminating in a new town centre to accommodate more than 15,000 residents.
“Its also an acknowledgement of our town planning, urban design and landscape design credentials as the project also involves HBO+EMTB undertaking a significant urban and master planning role for a major new town centre on land adjacent to the biotech park,” HBO+EMTB’s managing director Kevin Fitzgerald said.
Much of the park, to be known as the “Akruti Gujarat Biotech Park” will function within Special Economic Zones with significant financial and taxation benefits for the biotech processing industries.
